Second hand clothing

There is a big tradition in our family not to buy new clothing, except for the essential underwear. Whenever the children need something, they know to ask if we can have a look on Vinted or other websites that sell preloved clothing.

Today, one of them turned around and said that she realised that almost everything she was wearing was second-hand. She listed her wellies, jeans and hoodie that all came from Vinted and her t-shirt that came from her mum.. :)

Her underwear and her headband were the only clothing that were bought new.

The children understand some of the aspects that make us avoid buying new clothes. One of them is the terrible labour conditions in poorer countries that workers of the garment industry need to suffer. They also know that materials, such as cotton or polyester (which we try but fail to avoid) are very resource intensive.

They don’t know though that one of the worst companies, Shein introduces as many as ten thousand new lines of clothing every single day. Our family could never contribute to such a wasteful and neglectful industry.
