Eco Team's Switch-Off Week: A Bright Idea for Energy Savings!

Each year, the Eco Team leads Switch-Off Week, an initiative to reduce energy consumption across the school and boarding houses. Throughout the week, Eco Team members conduct spot checks to ensure that lights are turned off when not in use.

Here's how it works:
If a student’s lights are off, their name is recorded and given a tick.
If the lights are left on, their name is recorded with a cross, and a reminder sticker is placed on the light switch to encourage better habits.
Most importantly, the Eco Team ensures that any unnecessary lights are switched off.
This year’s Switch-Off Week ran from the 3rd to the 9th of February, and the results were remarkable! The week before the initiative, the school used 3,549 kWh of electricity. During the Switch-Off Week, usage dropped to 2,793 kWh—a reduction of 804 kWh, saving the school an impressive £213.80!

Recognising Our Eco Champions
Each boarding house also celebrated pupils who were named 'Eco Champions' for being the most proactive in switching off lights in their dorms and communal spaces. These students set a fantastic example for their peers, demonstrating how small, mindful actions can contribute to a greener school.

As a school, we also identified ensuite bathrooms as a key area for improvement, with lights often being left on unnecessarily. Moving forward, we are encouraging everyone to be extra mindful in these spaces to help further reduce our energy consumption.
