Charitable Giving Update

Written By: Solihull Prep School

Over the past 3 years, Solihull Prep School has done much to support people, far beyond our local community and shores, who we know are not as fortunate and privileged as we are.

Helping and sharing, and caring for others, are central tenants at the heart of our ‘Behaviours that Benefit’ and ‘Meaningful Living’ learning in School.

Through special charity weeks and events at school, and a team of our staff, Team Solihull, completing sponsored Ultra Challenges, we have raised money for the following projects:

  • 2021: Cataract Operations to save the sight of those who could not afford to do so themselves.

  • 2023: Clean Water Supply Projects to provide access to clean water.

  • 2024: Paediatric Ward Build and upgrades.

Recently, our school supported two of our staff to go on sabbatical to see the projects on the ground, to assess their impact and see up close, some of the educational, health and livelihood projects implemented with funds raised by Team Solihull and Solihull Prep School.

The money we raised has successfully funded the prevention or reversal of blindness for over 2200 of Sri Lanka’s poorest people. This has been achieved through the organisation of large cataract camps. The operations are life changing for each individual person, and for their families.

We are also proud that now, many school children and tea plantation worker families– in many cases for the very first time –have access to clean drinking water. Typically, these families live hard, hard lives of strenuous manual labour and often in relentless heat.

While it’s difficult to fully quantify the positive outcomes of upgrading High Dependency Units of the paediatric wards, it’s not an exaggeration to say that the money we raised will save the lives of very sick children.

We have upgraded facilities in 2 hospitals, providing climate control, resuscitation beds, oxygen lines, instrument stands and bespoke spaces. A plan to build a new paediatric ward is also currently underway.

This link to a Flipbook Team Solihull Updates from Sri Lanka (heyzine.com) shows how our fundraising has helped those less fortunate than ourselves.

We are very proud of the sustainable impact that our charity fundraising, both from every pupil and our school staff, has had in helping people.
