Eco-bricking and recycling!

Following our Charity Week last term, which raised money for an eco-brick building in project in South Africa, we were inspired to start a new mission of our own… to see if we can recycle all our soft plastic waste from our break times! We have encouraged everyone in school to make sure they throw away any crisp packets and sweet & biscuit wrappers into our special eco-brick recycling bins. With these packets and wrappers, we fill eco-bricks!

Roll on a few months later and we now have a growing number of completed eco-bricks, full of waste from school, that would have otherwise ended up in landfill.

We have discovered with a lot of effort, that so much soft plastic can fit into a single eco-brick, so it’s going to take some time to make enough bricks for creating something sustainable in school!

We are currently deciding what we can build with our lovingly filled eco-bricks. Ideas so far include a bench seat in the playground, footrests for pupils of different heights in the form rooms, and an eco-brick recycling bin for recycling. We’ll keep you posted with whatever we decide!
