Understanding plastic

We were lucky to be lent an interesting item from our eco friend, Gill to understand the properties of plastic bags. One was a bio degradable bag, that fortunately is being used now to cover magazines, sent through the post. The other was a nasty plastic bag that previously contained one child's sandwich! So, the children cut them down to fit in the cases, before filing the pod with water and standing both bags inside. We will continue to observe any changes. The children have already predicted the bio degradable bag will break down into nothing and the plastic bag will end up floating around, and going in the bin. "It will get blown into the sea, where a shark will eat it and it will die" and "a hedgehog will get his head stuck in it" were two suggestions. Young children understand the harm plastic bags do, which can only be a good thing for their future.
