Supporting the streets blog
St Christopher's very own "Supporting The Streets" Young Enterprise company made their way to the North-West Finals, by being crowned as Lancashire Business of the Year.
Beating tough competition from Lancashire schools, their innovative and sustainable idea to sell products to help the homeless proved a hit with the judging panel. The GCSE students (Amelia Litherland, Megan Shovelton, Elizabeth Saunders, Rhiannon Murphy) pitched their product ideas and the journey they travelled as a business and as individuals. Their idea started from the Sleepout for the Homeless at the start of term (run by Wendy Litherland, Director of Sustainability) and their passion continued in making "Bags of Love" for the homeless - complete with clothes, cosmetics, and sanitary products. Over 600 portions of soup were made and over 120 Bags of Love were given out at Maundy Relief. Diverting 500kg from landfill.
The team was awarded sustainability for their recycling and reuse of unwanted clothing, the innovation to make the "Bags of Love" from the profits raised, and an excellent team dynamic that secured their place as Company of the Year 2019. They went on to compete in the North-West finals held at Lancaster University, where they won the customer service award.
The students have proved their worth as leading enterpreneurs and showed great business acumen to win Company of the Year 2019. They have worked so hard and put a high level of effort and polish into their business. It's been great to see them develop in their team-working skills and applied themselves for the good of the community.
