Roots & Shoots Eco Group Fundraising for Outside Equipment
With the outside area growing from strength to strength, and with our newly formed Roots & Shoots Eco Group, we thought it would be a great idea to run a stall at our Christmas Fayre to see if we could raise some money towards more equipment and gardening tools to help maintain our outside area. We want to give more children the opportunity to enjoy the outside – gardening, pond dipping, bug hunting, or just a space to enjoy the nature around them. We also needed to buy 18 wooden stakes to support our newly planted, and fast growing, saplings. The Eco Group first held a meeting to discuss what they felt would be beneficial to spend the funds on. It was decided that a class set of nets for pond dipping, some bee houses (as our wild meadow was alive with bees and butterflies this summer), some more garden hand tools and, of course, the badly needed wooden stakes for our micro-wood trees. We decided at our school’s Christmas Fayre, we would sell second hand books and some handmade Christmas snowman and reindeer decorations that we had created. We used twigs, mini log slices and reused bits of wool - they looked amazing.
At the end of event, we had made £42 towards our shopping wish list; we did really well and are looking forward to using the new equipment when it arrives.
