Pond Dipping
So a year on from when Bournemouth University first started working on re-creating the pond with St Luke's Primary School we did a spot of pond dipping! We were delighted to find that not only did we have lots more newts but we also had loads of signs of invertebrates including: Dragonfly larvae, Damselfly larvae, Fly larvae, Pond skaters, Common diving beetles and their larvae, Mayfly larvae, Freshwater shrimps and Water boatmen.
Overall a very happy pond and a great variety of taxa given it's only been a year! We all had a great time finding and identifying all of these and perhaps most importantly-no one fell in! The next step is to get some sticklebacks into the pond when we get properly into spring.
