Our first "Birders Club" meet-up
In order to inspire our younger generation to strive to protect our world, they first need to understand what they're protecting and to fall in love with the natural beauty of our planet. As part of our Swindon Saplings Roots & Shoots group, I decided to form a "Birders Club" with the aim to inspire our young nature lovers to learn more about birds and their habitats (as well as the other animals who share these spaces), in order to better protect them. So to mark the start of spring, we took a walk to see what birds we could find in a local country park. We had such a fantastic morning with a variety of birds and both children and parents enjoyed spotting birds and identifying them. We met two gentlemen who were out photographing birds who were very happy to share their knowledge and the fellow birders we met on our walk were so happy to see a group of young children getting into birdwatching. They are the next generation of wildlife lovers and nature protectors, after all. What we saw:
