Mad Hatter's Wins a Bronze Award from Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots

Mad Hatter's Nursery, a brilliant preschool in Hampshire, has been given a Bronze Award from Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots for efforts in Conservation - Spring Term 2022. Congratulations Mad Hatters! The owner of the nursery - Mrs Chiverton - and her lovely team, and children at the preschool have been overjoyed with this Award. It has been a wonderful year for the nursery and by all reports from teachers and parents alike, the children have loved their weekly workshops with me where I'm - Teaching Children Conservation Through Art.
Endangered species - lesser known animals such as pangolins, along with elephants, rhinos, and big cat conservation, as well as pertinent worldwide issues such as climate change, logging, coral reef conservation, etc have been covered in a relaxed, fun, and creative way. Their artwork is beautiful as you can see from the photos.
The children's colouring skills and ability to retain the most important facts about how we can help protect and preserve our planet, have been wonderful and increased as the year has progressed, so I can rest assured that they will be starting a big school equipped with a good, basic knowledge of conservation.
As the summer holidays are beginning to kick off and people will be visiting beaches all over the world, the children and I were colouring in marine conservation concerning reef conservation. A really easy way in which we could help with marine life would be to check the labels and only buy suncream without the ingredient; Oxybenzone, which is not ‘Reef safe’ and which adds to the effects of coral bleaching, as well as harming sea life.
Did you know that according to a report by Australian Government scientists at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority - coral bleaching has affected 91% of reefs surveyed along the Great Barrier Reef from 2021-2022? But, we can help just by simply being careful of thing things we purchase!
