All around the world people are getting involved with Roots & Shoots projects. Each one of them is doing their bit to help protect this planet and the people and animals who live on it. This activity highlights six activities that have been done from different countries around the world. This is a great activity to help you see how your small efforts can all add into a much larger picture of people everywhere trying to make our world a better place.

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how one person can make a difference in the world but there are hundreds of people who work in science, conservation, engineering and technology who have done just that. This activity looks at the work and life of some of these individuals and what they have achieved.
The Inspirational Scientists used in this activity are all women, from many parts of the world. Women working in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine) have typically been under-represented, and often it’s their male counterparts that received the attention. This activity is a chance to celebrate their achievements.

In this activity your students will be looking into the topic of Fairtrade. Around the world many farmers and workers don’t get paid enough wages to live on, so although they work hard, they still live in poverty. Carrying out this activity will help students learn about how our shopping habits affect people all around the world.
They will discover how Fairtrade works and put together a wall display showing facts and figures they have learnt about in their discovery. To take it to the next level your students can record a short radio or video advert using the information they have learnt combined with a bit of drama and media experience! This will really test what they think is the most important message to get across to encourage others to support Fairtrade.
