Year 2's Hunt for Habitats

As part of their science work, our Year 2 children went into our woodland area to hunt for habitats.

We spotted some birdhouses and bug hotels, and some natural microhabitats, such as leaf and log piles. We spied some minibeasts hiding under logs and stones. We found a hole under a tree stump and discussed what might be burrowing underground. We were sad to find some plastic litter, so took it to school to be recycled.

Back in the classroom, we talked about what we could do to protect or create habitats in our school grounds. The children were so enthusiastic and came up with some fantastic ideas!
