The ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ Goat Lees Community Shed is now open for business!
The Year 6 children have been hard at work organising the launch of our community sharing shed and we are pleased to say, they were able to open it to all parents and staff the 22nd April.
A write up was placed in the Goat Lees Bulletin Newsletter which went out to all parents, explaining how this great new project would operate: every Monday, parents and staff could bring in anything from food, household items, toys, books or toiletries and drop them off at the ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ point. Year 6 would then collect and sort these items, arranging them in the community shed which would then be open to all every Friday, after school. Of course, if anyone wishes to bring in items on any other day, or they wish to swap something they have for an item out of the ‘Waste Not, Want Not’ shed, of course that would not be a problem – we just want everyone to make use this amazing facility to help us reduce waste. The Year 6s are also collecting any fruit or vegetables that are left over from KS1 ‘Healthy Snacks’ at the end of the day so we can make use of any unused food in the school.
We are hoping as more and more parents hear about it, the number of people using it will increase; a fabulous way of reducing waste and supporting those within our school community that may need a little help from time to time. We have had staff, as well as parents, donating a variety of unwanted items so well done Year 6 for this excellent idea!
