News from Cornflower Farm by the Farm Team
Rabbits:
We are excited to introduce our two new baby rabbits, Riley and Whitefoot. The male rabbit, Riley, is on the left, while the female rabbit, Whitefoot, is on the right. They are Luna’s children. Luna met their father while she was staying with Mr. Keeley. She escaped from the rabbit palace and met a wild rabbit, resulting in an unexpected increase in rabbit numbers!
The two young rabbits are now happily settled with their cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents, Star and Po. Last week, all the rabbits were vaccinated, and Riley was castrated to prevent any further population increases this year. Here they are, enjoying their supper with the rest of the family.
Sheep:
The sheep brothers, Eddie and Shaun, had a lovely summer with the Hart family and seem delighted to be back at Cornflower Farm! Last week, Mrs. Rayner’s father and Mr. Rayner trimmed their feet, and now they are happily skipping around their field, catching up with their old friends.
Chickens:
Puff is the proud mother of a curious little chick named India, who was born this summer. India is the tiniest of the group and has three brothers: Logan, Oscar, and Ernest. In the photo, they are enjoying a delicious treat together.
Puff’s daughter, Dora, has two lively chicks of her own: Flora and Nora. They are over a year old now and love exploring the school grounds. Flora has pale feathers, while Nora is mostly black, making them stand out among the other chickens. They are healthy, eating well, and growing stronger each day.
Guinea Pigs:
We have three guinea pigs: Rachel, Phoebe, and Janice. They live happily with the rabbits and enjoy their company.
Cornflower Farm plays an important role in students' lives, providing them with hands-on experience in caring for animals. Pupils not only learn valuable skills in animal husbandry but also benefit from the calming and therapeutic effects of interacting with the animals. This has been shown to reduce stress, improve mental wellbeing, and promote a sense of responsibility and compassion.
