Eton College CynoFilter Team is a Top Five Earth Prize Contender in Europe
Eton boys Joel, Bob, Leo and Akshay of Team CynoFilter have been shortlisted as one of the five best Earth Prize teams in Europe. The Earth Prize is a competition open to teens worldwide. It recognises students who develop innovative solutions to achieve environmental sustainability. In 2025 for the first time, judges will select seven Regional Winners, one each for Oceania & Southeast Asia, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central & South America, and North America.
Team CynoFilter describes their novel project this way: “Our mission is to provide a natural solution to the climate crisis. With immense time and investment being funnelled into methods that do not yield worthy results or damage the environment in the process, we propose a far greater alternative. The CynoFilter is a biological filter that utilises cyanobacteria encased in a sodium alginate matrix. This cheap and highly simplistic form of carbon capture is based on a layered honeycomb design and a system of membranes and filters to enhance durability and efficiency.”
The Earth Prize overall Global Winning Team will be announced on 22 April 2025.
