Providing a house for a Dormouse!
In February, Swindon Saplings Home Ed Group, donated 4 brand new dormice boxes to the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust for one of their dormice monitoring sites. Loss of habitat has been a major factor in the decline of Hazel Dormice, leading to their “vulnerable” status and subsequent protection. Charities are working tirelessly to protect remaining habitats and support the populations of Hazel Dormice to improve their numbers.
We wanted to help and were able to purchase these boxes using the prize money awarded at the 2023 Jane Goodall awards ceremony, kindly donated by The Do Schools Award. We purchased these from the Kent Mammal Group, which has meant that money spent has gone on to continue supporting other wildlife charities.
We can’t wait to get updates from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, as and when our boxes start being used.
