Westhill Primary Sustainability Week
Everyone had such a busy week last week for our Sustainability Week! We were learning about litter, renewable energy and upcycling all sorts of different things! On Monday some of the Global Goals Group talked to each class about The Big Battery Hunt. We can’t believe how many batteries we have managed to collect in just a week! We have started counting them, watch this space for the grand total! On Tuesday the Rota Kids did a fantastic assembly all about litter and the impact it has on our environment. They talked about recycling and how we can tackle the litter in the playground. Nursery to P3 worked together to make some great ‘litter bugs’ and P4-7 really enjoyed their quiz.P1 and P2 also had a visit from Mr Watt from BP to talk to us about energy and look at the different types of renewable energy. On Wednesday the Rota Kids worked with each class to pick up litter in our local area. We couldn’t believe how much we found! We will find out soon which class managed to collect the most.Outdoor Classroom Day was lots of fun on Thursday, and although it was very windy it stayed dry, phew! We did some outdoor art work, made music, played crazy golf, created ladybird mazes and many more great activities. On Friday the Global Goals Group ran some Unbelievable Upcycling craft workshops. It is amazing what you can do with some ‘junk’!Throughout the week each class built some wind turbines, ready for the Wacky Wind Turbine Challenge. Each class worked really hard to make wind turbines using recycled materials. We tested them with wind (a hairdyer) and they worked! We certainly have some future engineers at Westhill Primary! All in all a very successful week! A massive thank you to all if the donations for our upcycling crafts and to all of the staff and children for all of their hard work! A huge well done to the Rota Kids and the Global Goals group too!
