We have been busy - Ysgol Clywedog eco update

We just planted a Tiny Forest on the school site using the Japanese Miyawaki method, planting 480 trees in a space the size of a tennis court. They are supposed to grow 10 x faster than those planted traditionally and absorb much more CO2 faster, as well as providing a habitat for hundreds of species. We planted it with 2 Year 4 classes from local primary schools to allow them to see them grow when they join us in 3 years time.

One of our members, Faith, has been made a Young Researcher for Chester Zoo. Hundreds applied and only 25 were chosen. This is a huge achievement for her and she will learn a great deal over the months ahead.

The group has also made a brand new raised bed to grow vegetables out of recycled fence posts and have been working with the local National Trust at Erddig to help with the upkeep of their gardens.

We had our first apple harvest this year too with a host of heritage apples that the students had never tasted... so we had an apple party!

We have asked the Eco Taskforce pupils to come up with ideas for the next big project for the group and present it back to us. We are excited to see what they come back with.
