Volunteering and Conservation in Uganda
In Easter, 2017, a group of girls from JAGS will be travelling to Kampala, Uganda to volunteer with AFFCAD. We will be working closely with members of the local community in the hope of helping to bring fundamental change and sustainable development to the slum communities in Kampala. We will be be volunteering on the projects AFFCAD have set up in Kampala, such as Give a Girl a Future and each girl has raised £500 prior to the trip, to help fund the building of a new primary school in the township of Bwaise.
After having the honour of hearing Ben Garrod speak about his chimpanzee research last month, we are excited to have the opportunity to go Chimp Trekking in the Budongo Forest, after our volunteer work in Uganda, where we'll hopefully learn more about the chimpanzees and the research carried out there. We also have the chance to visit the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, which will be an amazing opportunity to learn about the conservation of such an endangered species. We hope this trip to Uganda will make a difference to the communities in Kampala, as well as educate us and help us raise awareness for animal conservation.
