Upper School Roots & Shoots starts at TASIS

TASIS Upper School students have joined in with the Lower School to form a new Roots & Shoots Club. The new club not only works on projects with the younger students, but will also meet regularly to design projects of their own. These projects will include helping to improve life on our 46 acre campus for animals and the environment, as well as reaching out into the local community to work with people and wildlife. As well, our global students will take part in projects worldwide. The students at TASIS come from a total of 56 countries worldwide, which helps us with links to other young people around the globe.The Upper School students will begin by meeting to work towards gathering some school supply donations. Ms. Gediman will drop off these items to the Roots & Shoots Community Coordinator in South Africa, as she stops in Johannesburg for a few hours during her own trip to Cape Town in October. The club will also discuss plans for future projects.Three of the founding student members of the Upper School Roots & Shoots Club began this new school year by attending Dr. Jane Goodall's talk at the Royal Geographical Society in London, where she spoke about 55 years at Gombe. This was an exciting opportunity for these students to not only meet their inspirational hero, Dr. Goodall, but also to listen to how she herself began her journey of working with the Chimpanzees in Africa when she was young. The students left feeling excited about having the opportunity to begin work under the umbrella of the global Roots & Shoots family!
