Stick Man fun in the woods

Primary 1 went on their first school trip this week! We have been reading the story 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson, so off we went on our very own Stick Man adventure! We went to Arnhall Moss with the local ranger Alison, it was very cold but we were wrapped up warm. Alison showed us all sorts of interesting things in the woods. She showed us the 'witches brooms' in the birch trees which we all thought were nests and we spotted some fungus growing on the trees that looked like pancakes! Alison also showed us how to work out how old the trees were using a piece of string and a tape measure. We are going to try this with the trees in our playground. We also collected sticks and made our very Stick Man. 'Sticky' was a very popular name for our new characters and we had lots of fun acting out the story back at school. A great first trip!
