Shelter building
As part of our weekly forest school sessions, our pupils across the primary school have each experimented with den building. They have worked hard to make small structures to practise the right knots and structure of sticks to form the foundations of a den. These were then transformed into a life sized den. Pupils had to choose which natural materials they wanted to experiment with to try and make their dens secure and as weatherproof as possible. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this and in particular enjoyed testing how effective they were. Pupils spent time in the shelter and tested having water poured over them to see how protected they would remain underneath. This is just one example of how our young people get immersed in the environment.
