Moreton Hall's Butterfly Bliss with Art and Bio

At Moreton Hall, we have been looking more closely at the wildlife around us. Pupils have been collaborating from Year 1 to Year 9 by investigating the Shropshire butterflies.Our collective effort has borne fruit in a remarkable display that showcases a spectrum of butterflies, ranging from the commonly known Red Admiral and Holly Blue to the more elusive Dingy Skipper and White-Letter Hairstreak. Each species has been meticulously researched and rendered, creating a visual feast for admirers of both the biological and artistic worlds.During our visit to the Natural History Museum, we found a great source of inspiration that influenced our artistic approach. Pulling out the drawers, just like the experience in a museum, became a moment full of excitement and anticipation. These intricate drawings now rest inside the drawer, resembling peaceful butterflies, inviting observers to marvel at the precise details of their craftsmanship.These artistic works go beyond just representing different species; they are a celebration of the vast biodiversity that exists around us. With every stroke of the pencil, the unique characteristics that differentiate each species have been captured. This is not simply an artistic pursuit; it is a deep dive into the diverse tapestry of life that surrounds us.Our dedication to promoting biodiversity goes beyond the art room. We take part in an initiative every summer where we plant wildflower seeds all around the school. This effort serves as a positive step towards seeing these species thrive in their natural habitat and helps students gain a better understanding and appreciation of them.The culmination of our project was made special by the presence of Mrs. Peel, Head of Biology. Her extensive knowledge added a layer of scientific insight. She shared interesting facts, such as the historical connection between the Brimstone butterfly and the color of the male's wings. This enriched our understanding of these captivating creatures.To sum up, this collaboration is not just a merger of different fields, it is proof of the beautiful intersection between art and biology. The paper drawer which now contains these artistic interpretations serves as an entrance to the wonders of the natural world, inviting the viewers to contemplate the intricacies and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.
