Eco work at Bowerham Primary and Nursery School

Students at Bowerham are working hard on eco projects - Eco Lead Molly and Deputy Eco Councillor Elsa are always busy coming up with new ideas and activities. Here is what they have been up to in the last few months:- Molly and Elsa baked and sold cakes to help fundraise to get down to London and see Dr Jane Goodall speak at the JGI UK's RGS event - Molly and Elsa collected 'baby' strawberry plants, transplanted them into second-hand plant pots and gave away some to children in a playpark. The girls described how to look after them and the life cycle of the plants. This will help the environment, help other families learn about plants, when the plants produce strawberries the families will benefit from the fruit and also it is great for wildlife/pollinators  - Molly and Elsa did a litter pick of the local area filling up two bin bags. This is to help protect wildlife and also it helps with people's mental wellbeing. Cleaner streets also ensure littering is less likely to happen and encourages others in the community to look after and take pride in their area- Molly and Elsa will be helping plant 100 bulbs along with the other Roots & Shoots participants which will add a splash of colour to early spring. Planting bulbs can help improve people's mood, the look of the flowers when they come up is known to promote wellbeing and positivity and the flowers will also be great for pollinators- Molly and Elsa gave away apples from Molly's allotment to those participating in the local family park run- Molly and Elsa are starting their fundraising 5k for 5 days this week
