Eco highlights at Walhampton from the school year so far

We have been busy at Walhampton and wanted to share the eco projects we are proud of from the school year so far.

• Y3 Upcyclers repurposed pallet bookshelves and other materials to make a cosy reading corner in their classroom & Y7-8 English classes are using sets of books sourced from Oxfam.

• Our Pre-Loved Uniform Shop is bigger, better and more popular than ever

• Conservation Group have started construction of a bug hotel and have been digging in free plants - verbascum, self heal, marjoram, black currant bushes and others to encourage bees and other invertebrates into the Science outdoor area. We are planting trees from the Woodland Trust along the drive and in our woods.

• The Eco-Reps and the Y5-6 Conservation Group made squares to be sewn into a quilt which was presented to our 2 MP’s by Lymington Friends of the Earth who were supporting the ‘United for Warm Homes Campaign’. Christmas Fair Toy Sale

• Our Christmas Dinner crackers were bought from the Woodland Trust - there were no single use plastics at this celebration!

The Eco-Reps had a Sustainable Christmas present swap - presents were hand made or Charity Shop finds, and were carefully wrapped in reused paper or bags.Our Eco-Reps wanted to support people who do not have access to clean water, and to reduce the amount of unwanted stuff going to landfill. They asked the Walhampton Parents’ Association if they could have a stall at the Christmas Fair and sold good quality toys and books donated by Walhampton families, raising over £170 for WaterAid.Unsold donations were delivered to ‘Step Up Safe Space’ who wrapped them and distributed them to families in need.
