Dulwich Prep London Eco Warriors – Springwatch!
The 14th- 21st February was National Nest Box Week! Our Dulwich Prep Eco Warriors in Year 1 and 2 learnt about why birds use nest boxes, what nesting materials they like to use and the best locations for bird boxes. The boys were very interested in this and, using bird boxes made by boys in school, helped to line them with suitable materials they found outside. We’ve been learning to spot different species in our local environment and learn more about their habitats, nesting and feeding patterns. The boys are currently scouting our school grounds looking for the best areas to hang the bird boxes. We’re hoping that by encouraging birds into our school grounds, it gives us the chance to contribute to bird conservation and observe any that use our nest boxes for breeding. We’ll be keeping an eye out over the rest of the year to see if we can spot any activity. Some boys also made their own bird feeders at home over the half-term and brought them in to school to show everyone.
