Damers First School - The dangers of balloons on our wildlife

Annabel and Vin from Don't Inflate to Celebrate https://balloonsblow.org/ came to talk to the whole of year 3 about the dangers of balloons and how they can cause harm to the wildlife. They showed the children what happens when a balloon bursts and turns into what looks like a jellyfish. Animals then think this is food and eat it which can then harm them. They also read the children a story called Marli's Tangled Tale about the dangers of balloons. Year 3 will be using this book in their Literacy lessons next week. We also found out other ways we can celebrate special occasions without using balloons that are eco friendly like blowing bubbles, lighting a candle, putting up fabric bunting, floating flowers.
