Clothes for the Cold

Aberdour Primary School - Clothes For The Cold Charity Hello,We are the P7’s at Aberdour Primary School. Last year we learnt about fast-fashion and wanted to stop it in its tracks. We decided that we could combine this with helping tackle poverty in our local area, so we thought we could create a charity to deal with both. The aim of our charity was to give people’s donated clothes a new lease of life. We could then use the profit made from selling this clothing to buy good quality, warm clothes for the people who used our local foodbank. This would tackle fast fashion by using clothes that may have been thrown out if we had not used them, and give people in poverty some clothes to keep them warm. We named it ‘Clothes For The Cold’ and set out to make it a reality.We entered it into a ‘Dragons Den’ themed social enterprise competition with other schools from our area. We were successful with our pitch and received £100 and used it to buy clothes rails, clothes hangers and other equipment that we would need. We set up donation points around our village, in the school and in various shops. Before long, we had plenty of clothes to sell. We set up our first pop-up charity event in the village hall. After a fun day of clothes selling, we had found good homes for the donated clothes and had made enough money to buy plenty of warm outfits such as hats, gloves, coats, scarves and lots more. We assembled these into care packages and sent them to our local foodbank. We were lucky enough to hear some of the responses that our packages had received and were extremely pleased to hear how useful they were and how happy they had made people.Due to the current pandemic, it would be hard to set up another charity shop event. Therefore, we are working on an online shop to sell more clothes with a click and collect system. Hopefully, we will be able to create more care packages and continue to tackle poverty and save the planet.Primary 7
