A Growing Concern - students become enterprising around Penryn College

As part of the continued success of the Living Classroom project at the College and the produce that was being grown we enlisted the help of our Business studies leaders to set up the Living Classroom Enterprise.  Through business studies lessons the students looked at how to run a small business and created an action plan for setting up the Living Classroom shop. The students then attended a Sustainable Business workshop run by a local Cornish company, LeapMedia which had gained a series of accolades for their sustainable approach to business management. The students then put their ideas into practice setting up a fruit and vegetable stall every Friday selling the produce grown on the college farm raising money for the farms continued growth. For their efforts and the sustainable way they approached their business, using recyclable resources where possible and promoting sustainable living, the students with their shop were invited to the Education and Business Partnership Awards where they won the Best School Stand.Congratulations to all the students involved for winning the award and raising over £500 from their efforts towards the upkeep of the College Farm.  This years plans look even more exciting as they move into a purpose built shop and extend their range of goods to include Fair Trade Chocolate and Coffee with locally produced Jams and Spreads.
