A day of Sustainability and Design at Penryn College

As part of Design of the Times (DoTT) Cornwall event for schools Penryn College held a whole day of sustainable activities for year 7.Starting in the morning with a presentation on climate change and a 'green' circus show students then attended a wide range of workshops held by local organisations including Cornwall recycle; Surfers against sewage; Cornwall transportation service and west country rivers trust. In the afternoon our environmental leaders showed the students an image of our carbon footprint and identified that waste and recycling was a major concern for us.  The students were then asked to come up with design solutions that might reduce our waste. The three winning ideas from the day included a Rocket Recyler, a Robot Recycler and a Bin-Free Pasta pot.  All three winning teams then spent a dya with the designer Sebastian Conran developing and enhancing their ideas further in the hope of turning one of these ideas into a reality.
